Michael
B. Melanson is a professional
genealogist, who has specialized
in Acadian genealogy for the
past 30 years. During this time,
he has done extensive research
on the Melanson ~ Melançon
family and has published two
books on the subject. These
books detail the genealogy of
the Melanson and Melançon
descendants of Pierre Mellanson
and Charles Mellanson, who arrived
in Acadia with their parents
in 1657.
The
Melansons of Nineteenth-Century
Southeastern New Brunswick -
A Genealogy was published
in 1998 and launched that summer
at the Melanson Family Reunion
held at St-Anselme, New Brunswick.
This genealogy focuses on the
Melanson descendants of Pierre
dit Parrotte Melanson, Charles
dit Charlot Melanson and Charles
dit Litan Melanson, all descendants
of Charles Mellanson, who settled
in southeastern New Brunswick
and Cumberland County, Nova
Scotia, in the late-eighteenth and early-nineteenth centuries. This book spans
seven generations, tracing the
latter generations into the
late-nineteenth and early-twentieth
centuries. The 324-page, 6"
x 9", laminated paperback
includes a 53-page index, complete
footnotes and a full bibliography.

and Charles Mellanson from the
1600s in Acadia through the
late-nineteenth and early-twentieth
centuries in Nova Scotia, New
Brunswick, Québec, Ontario,
New England, New York, the Midwest
and Louisiana. Although the
original family surname Mellanson
is most commonly found today
as Melanson, Melançon
or Melancon, other variations
covered in this book include
Malanson, Malonson, Malonzo,
Mannausa, Mannasau, Mélançon,
Melonson, Menancon, Menançon
and Menanson.
