In the summer of 1657, Charles Mellanson arrived in Acadia with his parents and brothers. His descendents thrived in the region of Port-Royal for nearly 100 years, until the 1755 deportation of the Acadian people. Taken prisoner and forced onto overcrowded ships, their homes were burned and crops destroyed by English troops. They were exiled to the American Colonies, England and France.
The families of Pierre dit Parrotte Melanson, Charles dit Charlot Melanson and Charles dit Litan Melanson, descendents of Charles Mellanson, escaped the deportation, however they were later found and imprisoned at Fort Beauséjour and Fort Edward until 1768. After their release, these families settled in what would become southeastern New Brunswick and Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. This genealogy follows the Melanson descendents of these men through the end of the nineteenth century.
