The Campbell-McIver Family

Father: John McIver alias Campbell Crofter; b. abt 1745; d. bef. 1856.

m. abt 1769

Mother: Helen "Elin" Logan (George (?) & Mary Clark) b. abt 1745; d. bef. 1856.

For taking part in the Scottish rebellion of 1685, which saw the highland clans defeated, Clan MacIver had its lands and estates forfeited. In 1688, the 10th Earl of Argyll restored the estates of Clan MacIver on the condition that the chief, Duncan MacIver, and all heirs of the clan assume the Campbell name and bear the coat of arms of Clan Campbell.

The actual parish records, from which the following genealogical data was obtained, uses the term "alias" so it appears that the name change was still not complete by the time that John, above, was born. The change from McIver to Campbell became more complete with the births of John's children and entirely so with his grandchildren and all subsequent generations.
